Easter Eggers
(The Blue Laced Red Ameraucana Project)

Looking for a challenging project? Or just a beautiful backyard layer?

The Inspiration To Create

There are already 10 APA recognized colors of Ameraucana, but none of them are built on the e^b E locus allele that supports some of the most beautiful patterns.

What to expect of a Splash Ameraucana

These Easter Eggers are Dark Brown Leghorn x Splash Ameraucana hybrids. The first generation (F1) gives us solid blue females and blue males with mahogany leakage. The second generation (F2) in 2026 should get pretty colorful. For now they will be designated as Easter Eggers, but the ultimate goal would be to create a Black/Blue/Splash laced or double laced Ameraucana. Whether they are single or double laced, depends on whether my Ameraucana parent possessed the Columbian (Co) gene (single laced) or not (double laced).

There will be a LOT of kinks to work out along the way. This won't be a simple 2 generation project. The odds of getting all of the genes lined up correctly in a single bird will be a lot like hitting the jackpot on a 20 reel slot machine. Correct comb type, leg color, egg color, pattern modifiers, and the correct foundation at the Extension of Black genes will be challenging. The proper Ameraucana body shape will need to be selected for along the way as well.

The F2 female offspring in 2026 will either lay blue or white. 75% chance of blue layers. 25% chance of white layers. We will be sharing these beauties in 2026! These can be a fun project for you too, or just beautiful additions to a backyard flock.

For examples of what our goal kind of looks like, Google "double laced Barnevelder" or check out the "Blue Laced Red Wyandotte".
